Dave Benson Phillips shared the oddest story he’d ever heard about himself and stated he has no plans to join a particular former boyband anytime soon.
The 58-year-old children’s TV host is presently on Celebrity MasterChef and revealed there was one particularly bizarre headline he would never forget.
According to Wikipedia, the celebrity read that he was listed as the fifth member of The X Factor sensation One Direction while scrolling through the information page.
The band that rose to prominence after being founded on Simon Cowell’s television talent show includes Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne (and Zayn Malik until he departed in 2015)… … the one and only Mr Phillips in a cosmos fueled by the rumour-mill swirl.
Dave described the strange whisper that had folks believing he was dancing and singing to the Best Song Ever.
He revealed: ‘On Wikipedia, apparently I was the fifth member of One Direction.’
The celebrity went on to name yet another ludicrous rumour, admitting that it wasn’t the worst ending a fictitious him could have had.
Dave carried on to say: ‘I was also married to Natalie Imbruglia. That was the one where Mrs. Phillips actually said to me, “Look, of all the rumours that you’ve ever had laid at your feet, that one’s not bad”. That one was lovely.
‘A lot of the ones that have been written about me have been very strange and sometimes too strange to print.’
The Get Your Own Back star decided to try his hand at impressing the MasterChef judges and provided a preview of what viewers might expect from him when he returns to their televisions.
He teased: ‘I was fairly professional in the kitchen as only a professional like me could be.
‘But I saw a clip of myself on the trailer that they put out and I accidentally bashed my thumb with a rolling pin.
‘If you wanna see a bit of comedy by an old guy, then keep watching Celebrity MasterChef. So there you go.’

When asked who his ideal dinner party guests would be, the TV personality quickly said that he would use his tried-and-true culinary abilities to cook a feast for The Age of Innocence’s Miriam Margolyes.
‘I met her years ago. I’ve met her across the years, during voiceovers and projects and things and she just looks like fun,’ he shared.
Dave continued recounting his star-studded run-in: ‘And I can remember trying to have a chat with her and she said, “If you want to know about all my past stories and everything, it’s all true”.
‘And I thought there are some great stories about you. So yeah, I think she’d be cracking.
‘My food might not be up to much on the day due to the sheer nerves of cooking for such celebrities, but I would like to think that conversation and stimulating personalities would be the order of the meal.’
