Danny Dyer now a contender for 14th Doctor Who after EastEnders exit

Danny Dyer is officially a contender for the 14th Doctor after leaving EastEnders and we’re kind of on board with this.

The Mick Carter actor is about to bid farewell to Walford Square but could he be on his way to pick up the keys to the Tardis?

Bookies William Hill currently have Danny priced at 20-1 to take over from Jodie Whittaker when she leaves the role later this year – so it’s not impossible!

Meanwhile, the star, who is also known for hosting The Wall, has admitted he’d be well up for it, telling the Daily Star in 2017: ‘I think I could do it easy. I’d keep my accent, too’.

Maybe a cockney Doctor is everything we need?

Jodie’s Doctor will regenerate in autumn this year, in a special airing for the BBC’s centenary anniversary.

While she’s filmed her regeneration scene, returning showrunner Russell T Davies said he hasn’t settled on an actor just yet.

Shedding light on the progress made at selecting Jodie’s replacement, Davies spilled: ‘We have genuinely not cast anyone yet. We’re just starting auditions.’

Naturally, he’s bursting with excitement to get going as he prepares to breathe new life into the series.

‘I’ve already written some of the episodes,’ he added to the Guardian. ‘The first will go out in November 2023 – that’s the 60th anniversary of the show.’

Aside from Danny, stars including It’s A Sin’s Lydia West and Omari Douglas are thought to be in the running, while some fans have backed stars including Michaela Coel, and Richard Ayoade.

Meanwhile, Years and Years star Olly Alexander has continuously denied he’s next in line for the role.

‘It genuinely was news to me,’ he said. ‘I definitely am not Doctor Who, and I’m not going to be Doctor Who. Promise!’

He added: ‘It’s not happening! I can tell you I’m definitely not doing it.’

Doctor Who will return to BBC this spring for Legend of the Sea Devils.
