Danny Baker has been blasted after he criticised Gareth Southgate over last night’s Euro 2020 heartbreak.

The England men’s football team lost to Italy in the cruellest way on Sunday after a penalty shootout, and the former BBC presenter was very critical of the national side’s manager.

He tweeted: ‘Gareth Southgate getting the expected soft ride from all the pundits. It’s the old boys club. F***ing disgraceful management from a winning position.

‘We have been average for SO many games now. More than the few we won. Nobody mentions that though.’

As well as saying Southgate was ‘hardly the messiah’, he described the manager’s coaching as ‘f***ing useless’ and insisted Luke Shaw’s record-breaking early strike was a ‘freak moment’.

He continued: ‘F***ing useless management by Gareth Southgate tonight. That early goal seems to be a freak moment. We were not very good in most of this tournament. England were so weak an attacking threat. He decided that.
