Dancing On Ice professional skater Joe Johnson has quickly become a fan favourite over the course of the 2022 series.
The 27-year-old American former competitive ice dancer is paired up with Love Island star Liberty Poole for this year’s competition, with the couple set to take to the rink tonight.
Joe joined the ITV competition last year, where he was paired up with the gymnastic medallist Amy Tinkler who became the fourth celebrity to be eliminated in week five.
But before becoming a member of the Dancing On Ice family, Joe was a professional figure skater and started skating when he was just seven years old.
Over the course of his career, he has competed with Karina Manta in ice dance as well as Tori Patsis and Paolina Bushur.
He was coached by Patti Gottwein in Colorado Springs, with Joe and Karina receiving their first Grand Prix assignment in 2018, competing at Skate America.
They finished in 10th place with a total score of 139.33.
Joe sadly announced his retirement from competitive figure skating on April 18, 2019.
It remains unknown as to whether Joe is in a relationship.
The skater is openly gay and has previously spoken out about the importance of visibility.
‘I just kinda started talking about it on social media one day because it stopped being convenient to skirt around,’ he told OutSports. ‘I certainly didn’t feel obligated.
‘I do think that LGBTQ people having to come out to legitimise ourselves is unfortunate, because being both LGBTQ and a private person is like… a thing that some people are.
‘I think visibility is vitally important, but it should be noted that not every LGBTQ person feels the need, and that’s their right.’
