Who is Matt Evers?
The 42-year-old American sportsman became famous by winning the junior pairs title at the 1998 US Championships alongside his partner Heather Allebach.
He then went on to pursue a career in showbiz by working on Broadway, modelling, and starring in films including Blades Of Glory and Sleepy Hollow High.
Since 2006, Matt has been a professional dancer for the hit show Dancing On Ice, and he’s back again for the 14th alongside Coronation Street actress Sally.
More notably, he and singer H became the first same-sex couple to feature on the annual series in 2020. The pair were the seventh to be eliminated from the competition.
In 2012, he made his London stage debut when he performed Up 4 A Meet at The Waterloo East Theatre.
Matt evidently caught the stage bug as he also starred in pantomime performances of Beauty And The Beast and Cinderella.
The star stripped off for The All New Monty 2019: Who Bares Wins, which also starred Love Island’s Jack Fincham and Strictly Come Dancing’s Gorka Marquez to raise awareness of male cancer.
Is Matt Evers married?
Matt doesn’t share much of his personal life. He was previously married but not many details on the relationship have been made public.
In 2018, the star came out as gay in an issue of Attitude magazine. Matt revealed that he started questioning his sexuality after his uncle died from an Aids-related illness almost 20 years ago.
The performer said his uncle was ‘banished’ from the family after coming out as gay due to his parents’ strict religious beliefs.
He continued: ‘They were strict Catholics at the tip of the Bible belt. I wasn’t aware of why his passing, and the thought of him never being accepted by his own family, hurt me so much until I realised I was gay. It’s scary, the difference between generations.’
The American-born entertainer also said that he felt compelled to speak up about his sexuality during Donald Trump’s reign as president, adding: ‘I live my life by example.
‘I want to show young people that what you feel or how you were born isn’t something bad.’
While not much is known about his relationship status, it is thought that Matt is currently single.
