Rehearsals for Dancing On Ice 2021 are only just underway, but new contestant Lady Leshurr reckons she might have already spotted her biggest competition on the new series.
The dancehall star is one of the 12 celebrities confirmed to take part next January and she’s beginning to find her feet on the ice in the run up to the show.
But there’s one skater who has really impressed her so far.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Lady Leshurr picked out 18-year-old Emmerdale actor Joe-Warren Plant as the star who could prove to be a big success on the show.
‘There’s a couple of people that you’re allowed to watch during the filming,’ Lady Leshurr said, discussing the early days of rehearsals. ‘I watched [Capital FM host] Sonny Jay and Joe-Warren Plant from Emmerdale.’
Speaking about Joe-Warren, Lady Leshurr added: ‘I think he’s going to be extremely good. He’s going to be incredible. It was amazing to watch him. I could see the skating stance he had already, and he just needs a couple of lessons.’
While Joe-Warren has impressed her, the rapper and Don’t Hate the Playaz star is hitting her stride in training and enjoying working with her professional partner, Brendyn Hatfield.
She said: ‘Sometimes I’m confident, then when the cameras are there my nerves go again.
‘The pro skater working with me, Brendyn, is incredible. He is amazing. He takes the time and is always patient. He’s got proper banter like me, too.’
However, while Lady Leshurr admitted she’d ‘always had a fear of ice and skates’, she believes she’s making progress ahead of the show’s return.
‘I’ve always wanted to learn how to skate. We’re definitely progressing. I thought if I go into something like this, then I can’t get out of it. I have to fully commit. I’m jumping in the deep end.’
Also taking to the ice next year are Rufus Hound, Billie Faiers, Rebekah Vardy, Graham Bell, Colin Jackson, Jason Donovan, Faye Brooks, Denise Van Outen and Mylene Klass.
It might not just be Dancing On Ice we’ll be seeing Lady Leshurr on soon either. When asked if there were any other shows she’d love to appear on, she said: ‘ Strictly would be a good one because I do like a dance.’
She added: ‘I’m just not good in heels. Being a female and dancing in heels, it’s literally torture. I don’t know how people do it!’
In the meantime, Lady Leshurr can be seen on the ITV2 shows Don’t Hate the Playaz and Ghost Bus Tours.
