Dan Walker has expressed his worry about the future of This Morning and Phillip Schofield‘s health.
The 46-year-old former Strictly Come Dancing participant and 5 News presenter is the latest celebrity to speak out in the aftermath of Schofield’s startling tell-all interview.
After confessing to an affair with a considerably younger male colleague on This Morning on Thursday (June 1), the ex-ITV personality sat down with both The Sun and BBC to recount his version of events.
Schofield stated that the impact from his revelation has left him ‘utterly shattered,’ and that he no longer feels he has a future in television.
He resigned from ITV totally last week after lying to his superiors and colleagues about his involvement with the runner, whose identity has been withheld from the public for his privacy, with Schofield adding the young guy simply wants it all to’stop’.
Walker has now taken to Instagram to express his desire for a thorough inquiry into what occurred.
‘I really hope the issues at This Morning are investigated and resolved’, he wrote.
‘I hope that the individuals involved get the help they need and the show stays on air.’
Walker added: ‘I also hope the relentless hounding from some elements of the media stops.
‘People are clearly on the edge.’
Many people agreed with his post, with the likes of actress Gemma Whelan commenting: ‘Absolutely. So well said Dan x 🙌’
Indeed, an inquiry into the circumstances behind Schofield’s resignation from ITV is underway.
Dame Carolyn McCall, the broadcaster’s chief executive, announced this week that a barrister is undertaking an external examination of the facts.
Meanwhile, MPs will interrogate ITV’s CEO later this month.
Despite ITV’s claims that they investigated romance accusations when they first appeared in 2020, the executive will be called to testify about Schofield’s affair.
A previous statement from the broadcaster read: ‘ITV can confirm that when rumours of a relationship between Phillip Schofield and an employee of ITV first began to circulate in early 2020 ITV investigated.
‘Both parties were questioned and both categorically and repeatedly denied the rumours as did Phillip’s then agency YMU.
‘In addition, ITV spoke to a number of people who worked on This Morning and were not provided with, and did not find, any evidence of a relationship beyond hearsay and rumour.
‘Phillip’s statement yesterday reveals that he lied to people at ITV, from senior management to fellow presenters, to YMU, to the media and to others over this relationship.’
Schofield stated in his most recent interview that there was no ‘official’ probe into his affair.
Schofield was questioned by BBC’s Amol Rajan if the probe was a’sham’ since it ‘obviously did not get to the facts’.
He responded by saying it would have been very difficult for the broadcaster to properly probe.
‘I think if you have two people who are lying, then what can you do?’ he said.
When asked about the scope of the probe, Schofield claimed she had made a few phone calls to both men.
Meanwhile, the young colleague, who has since left ITV, previously stated that he was not questioned by the network.
According to editor Martin Frizell, the findings of the future probe will be made public.
