Dame Joan Collins has expressed her joy at King Charles’ coronation and provided insight into their bond.
The 89-year-old actress is a tremendous fan of the Royal Family and has met several of its members, including the late Queen Elizabeth II.
She has a special affection for the now-King Charles, who bestowed a Damehood on her in 2015 while whispering to her, ‘It’s about time.’
Now, speaking before of his coronation, which she will attend as an invited guest, Dame Joan recalled some past encounters with Charles, joking that it might not be fit for morning television.
On Good Morning Britain, the Dynasty legend told Kate Garraway and Ben Shepard that she had’met Charles a couple times, and he wrote about me.’
‘I can’t say what it was on morning TV, it was quite naughty,’ she teased.
She added that it was supposed written around the time she met Charles while ‘wearing a very, very low cut dress.’
In Christopher Anderson’s book The King: The Life of Charles III, it is reported that Charles once wrote in a letter that Dame Joan had ‘an unbelievable cleavage… all raised up and presented as if on a tray.’
Dame Joan lavished praise on the king, claiming he was ‘charming’ and had ‘the most amazing voice, very deep’ and ‘had the looks’ to be an actor if he had continued the trade, having participated in playing while at school.
The celebrity will be crowned for the second time, having been a teenager when Queen Elizabeth was crowned.
She remembered the scenes across the UK at the time, saying they had ‘never seen anything like it.’
‘I was gobsmacked. I had never seen anything like that carriage. But we’re going to see it again, aren’t we?’
Dame Joan was a huge fan of the late Queen, and paid tribute to her following her death last September by saying she ‘fell under the spell of [the Queen] the first time out of the many times I met her, and my admiration has remained undimmed throughout the years.’
When she got her Damehood in 2015, she said, ‘It is humbling to receive this degree of honour from my Queen and nation, and I am happy and really thankful.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV
