Countryfile’s Adam Henson reveals he broke protocol when speaking to the Queen: ‘I just blurted it out’

Countryfile presenter Adam Henson has revealed he once broke protocol when he met The Queen.

The farmer appeared on This Morning today, where he reminisced over a memory about the late monarch to hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, after serving as the longest reining monarch, and dining with plenty of celebs over her time.

Recalling his lunch with the Queen, in which he sat next to her, Adam began by saying that he ‘didn’t know’ there was a protocol in place.

He said: ‘I didn’t know! And so, when you sit down, the late Queen turned to her right to speak to that person, and then you’re supposed to turn the other way so that everyone talks to everyone.’

Adam continued: ‘And then you’re supposed to wait to be spoken to.’

Alison chimed in, clearly aware of the protocol: ‘On the second course!’

Adam said: ‘Well exactly, and so it came to the second course, and I couldn’t wait. I just blurted out!

‘And the question I asked her was relevant, I said, “What is it you love about life? Is it music, art, travel, meeting people?”

‘And she said, “Adam, like you, I love my wildlife, I love my farming, I love my dogs and I love the countryside.”‘

Adam continued by saying at the time, he’d recently bought a highland bull from the Balmoral estate, which the Queen actually knew about.

‘And she said to me, “How’s Archie, my bull?”‘

‘Wow,’ a stunned Alison added in, saying: ‘So she researched you!’

‘Well indeed,’ Adam agreed.

‘I think, she as a person, adored her farming and wildlife,’ he added.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV
