Conspiracy theorists incorrectly believe The Simpsons predicted the fires in Hawaii (Picture: Disney)
The Simpsons has prophesied many strange future occurrences, but conspiracy theorists are once again barking up the wrong tree.
They think a 2016 episode of the long-running cartoon Monty Burns’ Fleeing Circus prophesied the employment of directed-energy weapons, which are laser beams similar to those employed in Star Wars that discharge highly concentrated energy at exact targets.
Before we go any further, let me state unequivocally that the following argument is absolutely untrue and an example of how badly fact-checked evidence may become hazardous lies.
However, conspiracy theorists devised an absurd and deceptive idea. The Simpsons episode in question anticipated that the Hawaii fires were caused by directed-energy weapons authorised by the government.
On August 8, catastrophic flames erupted across Maui. Lahaina was destroyed by the terrible fires, and many fled into the ocean to escape the flames and smoke. The Maui flames have killed at least 99 people as of Monday.
Of course, this is absolutely wrong since, first and foremost, the blazes were not a government scheme, and second, the conspiracy theorists completely misread The Simpsons episode.

In the episode, a ray of flaming light scorches through Springfield, spreading havoc and destroying entire structures with flames.
The fires, however, were not caused by a directed-energy weapon, but by the presentation of a new monument in town constructed of a substance that reflected sunlight, triggering the fires.
That’s all there is to it.
The Simpsons, on the other hand, appears to have foreseen certain future events, such as Elon Musk renaming Twitter to X and Greta Gerwig’s ‘feminist’ reworking of Barbie in the Margot Robbie picture.
In June, fans were taken aback when a 2016 episode appeared to presage the Titanic submersible disaster, following Homer as he lost consciousness and oxygen on an underwater journey.
The long-running show also foreshadowed Cypress Hill’s London Symphony Orchestra appearance over three decades after the joke was made on the comedy.
The Simpsons is available to stream on Disney Plus
