Sara Pascoe has confessed that she felt pressed to return to work soon after giving delivery.

In February of last year, the comic revealed the birth of her boy before taking a position on the panel quiz programme QI five weeks later.

Defining her choice: ‘The advantage of having some money in the bank is that you don’t have to take a job to pay next month’s rent, but the fear is – if I don’t say “Yes” to a job now, what if they don’t ask me again?’ Sara, 41, said.

Despite the concerns of those around her, this thought process led to her taking on a work fairly early in her son’s existence.

‘My agent had said, “Don’t you want a bit more time? Because you’re swollen, mad and leaky.”’ she recalled during an interview with Radio Times. ‘I was afraid that if I missed it, they wouldn’t ask me next year.’

She also spoke about the incident, adding, ‘I was mad. I went bright red, I had a sip of wine and my body couldn’t understand what I was doing!

‘Then I forgot how to laugh, I was so in my head. Alan Davies was being really funny, and I remember thinking, “Where does my jaw go when I laugh?”

‘Then I was thought afterwards, “Oh, this was too soon? I’m absolutely insane.”’

Sara and her spouse, fellow comedian Steen Raskopoulos, used IVF to produce their kid.

On Valentine’s Day, she shared the joyful news with an adorable photo of fellow comic Steen feeding their newborn, adding, ‘Morning everyone from me and my valentines.’

Sara had been upfront about her infertility problems prior to the birth of their boy, and she had used it as the foundation for many quips.

She talked about how people were perplexed by her shifting world.

‘People who felt close to my narrative said, “Who are you, then?” And it was like, “Sorry, people are really complex!”.

‘When I was infertile, I was really defensive and now I’m a mummy, I do mum jokes. I’m an over-sharer – I’m comfortable with it, and with the discussion that comes after.’

Sara will be back for a second season of Last Woman on Earth, where she will learn how to perform the world’s most vulnerable tasks. This involves ice sculpting in Finland and sweet creation in Cuba.

Last Woman on Earth with Sara Pascoe begins on Sunday 9 April at 9pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
