Coleen Rooney makes the bombshell suggestion that husband Wayne probably should not go out ‘unsupervised’ while discussing the footballer’s issues around alcohol in a new Amazon Prime documentary.
The new feature-length film, titled Rooney, focuses on the England and Manchester United striker’s illustrious career and personal life, from his days as a rising teenage sports star to his highs and lows on and off the pitch.
In the documentary, which will be released on Friday, former childhood sweethearts Coleen and Wayne open up about his past behaviour with other women, with Coleen explaining why she stayed with him.
The TV personality and author, 35, admits that their children – sons Kai, Cass, Klay and Kit – had some part to play in their relationship not ending.
‘That was part of it, but also, we still love each other,’ she says.
‘We have [made it work], we’re not the lovey-dovey type anyway, we love to have a laugh together and we work well together.’
Sharing her hopes for the future and Wayne’s actions going forward, Coleen adds: ‘Hopefully, he’s learnt, and he doesn’t get himself into any of those horrible situations again.
‘But, it’s happened and I’ve got to live with it and if I couldn’t cope with living with it, I would’ve ended the relationship.’
In 2004 Wayne confessed to soliciting prostitutes in Liverpool while dating Coleen, saying at the time: ‘I was young and stupid. It was at a time when I was very young and immature and before I had settled down with Coleen.’
