Coleen Nolan clarifies cancer scare after fans reach out over ‘diagnosis’

Coleen Nolan has addressed her encounter with cancer after announcing earlier this week that she had a “shattering experience.”

On Monday’s Loose Women, the 58-year-old anchor confessed that she discovered a ‘small amount of skin’ on her shoulder that caused her anxiety.

While it wasn’t vanishing, it wasn’t irritating her, but when she went to see a dermatologist for a separate problem, she was told it was a basal cell carcinoma.

‘It was so startling that my first impulse, typical of me, was to giggle hysterically,’ she claimed on the show.

‘I just thought that was the most ridiculous thing. I’m sick of cancer.’

Coleen treated the bit of skin on her shoulder, which she described as a little red, with chemotherapy cream, before alerting the doctor to skin on her nose, which he revealed was a melanoma, a form of skin cancer that can spread.

now addressing her health difficulties, Coleen has been showered with praise for raising awareness, but she’s now cleared up the ‘diagnose’.

‘It’s not really a diagnosis,’ she explained on Tuesday’s Loose Women, seated beside Brenda Edwards and Charlene White, thanking fans for their wishes and support.

She went on to explain: ‘It was carcinoma, which is gone, and then the melanoma on my face is something that works like pre-cancer, if I don’t sort it then much later on in life it will turn to skin cancer.

‘But I was trying to highlight the importance of if you’ve got anything you’re worried about then go and get it checked, which is what I did and found it.’

Coleen’s health worry prompted co-star Charlene to pursue her own health visit after having some skin on her leg evaluated.

‘I needed someone to remind me how important that is,’ Charlene said.

Coleen replied: ‘Yeah because the thing is you feel silly going with something that’s not hurting you, there’s no pain, it’s not making you ill, and you think, you don’t want to waste anyone’s time, it probably is a bit of eczema.

‘But if you don’t know what it is, you just need them to say it’s fine or it’s not.’

Coleen’s sister, Bernie Nolan, died of cancer in 2013 at the age of 52, and Linda Nolan, 64, reported in March this year that her disease had progressed to her brain.

Anna Nolan reported in 2022 that she has been cancer-free for the second time.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
