Christopher Eccleston has shared a first look image of his new Doctor Who script as he returns to the iconic role.
The actor is set to star in new audio series The Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor Adventures, playing the Time Lord again after first inhabiting the character on TV 15 years ago.
The actor shared a picture of himself holding the new script from audio drama producers Big Finish, confirming beyond all doubt that he’s stepping inside the Tardis once again.
As the picture shows, the script is for the first volume of the Ninth Doctor Adventures, which has the title of Ravengers.
After gaining such a strong following from fans from his time on the show, it’s a delight for many to see him back in character.
Eccleston previously said about returning as the Doctor: ‘It will be exciting to revisit the Ninth Doctor’s world, bringing back to life a character I love playing.’
The Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor Adventures series will be released across four box sets which will be available on CD and vinyl, as well as for digital download.
The actor is reprising the role despite once saying he would never go back. After first winning over critics and viewers alike on the show in 2005, the actor pulled out and was replaced by David Tennant.
Speaking about Chris reprising his role, Big Finish chairman Jason Haigh-Ellery said: ‘I first talked to Christopher about returning to the role of the Doctor at a fan convention in February this year.
Meanwhile, Doctor Who is back on BBC One this Christmas with a New Year’s Day special.
The first volume of the series will be available in May 2021.
