Chris Kamara shares health update after travelling to Mexico for treatment

Chris Kamara has disclosed that he flew to Mexico for therapy in order to regain his speech.

Last year, the renowned sportscaster, 65, revealed he had apraxia after viewers voiced worry over his slurred speech.

As in Chris’ case, the neurological issue causes difficulty with specific motor movements and can frequently disrupt speech.

Since leaving ‘ Soccer Saturday in April 2022 after 24 years, the former player has sought to raise awareness of the ailment.

He has now released a health update, stating that he has regained part of his speech.

Chris appeared on This Morning on Tuesday to discuss his impending participation on Britain Get Singing, and broadcasters Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson asked how he was doing.

Chris seemed perplexed and questioned them, before saying he’d never sang in the shower and was afraid his wife ‘would be knocking on the door’ if he did.

Chris broke down on Good Morning Britain last month when addressing his new book, Kammy: My Unbelievable Life, and following documentary, in which he candidly discussed his health fight.

‘I get upset talking about it because I was in denial. I was ashamed that I couldn’t speak,’ he shared.

Chris said that he had suicidal thoughts after being diagnosed with apraxia.

In his memoirs, he expressed anxiety about the extent of his ‘physical and neurological decline’ and the ‘impact it would have on people around me’.

Chris added that he could only see himself ‘as a burden’ and felt like ‘a shell of the man I used to be that they would be left to look after’.

He then detailed how he came to believe that this family would be ‘better off’ without him.

Britain Get Singing airs on Christmas Eve at 9pm on ITV1. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
