Cheryl Hole has reacted angrily to the negative reactions to her impending appearance on Celebrity MasterChef.

The Drag Race actress, 29, is one of the celebrities competing on Celebrity MasterChef, seeking to impress judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode. She is up against popstar Jamelia, Go Compare star Wynne Evans, musician Locksmith, and model Sam Fox.

Cheryl, actual name Luke Underwood-Bleach, is only participating in a culinary competition, but that is enough for bigots to post hateful statements on social media, which Metro has opted not to republish or give a platform to.

Fortunately, the performer has strong skin and has responded appropriately to criticism, which is, among other things, truly sad and strange.

‘Sitting here chuckling at all these replies of people getting angry for me cooking a bit of food,’ she wrote, before immediately being inundated with support.

‘These people are just exhausting! Pay them no mind,’ replied one fan while so many others echoed the same sentiment.

Cheryl really emphasised how important LGBTQ+ presence on shows like Celebrity MasterChef is becoming, especially in light of the stabbing of two gay men outside a bar in Clapham last week.

‘I mean we’re in a day and age where I feel like the movement is going a bit backwards, there’s more hate crimes,’ she told BBC.

‘We’ve just had an attack on LGBTQ+ community in Clapham the other day.

‘I don’t understand what’s happening in the world and to have representation for our community, to have voices and stories heard, shows we are nothing to be feared.

‘We’re light, laughter and entertainment. We’re just here for a good time and to make sure everyone is looked after.’

She added: ‘We’re just individuals wanting to live our lives and doing no harm and causing no grievances to anybody, so I don’t understand why people take such an issue to us as a community.’

Celebrity MasterChef continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
