Charlotte Sumner may have just been kicked out of the Love Island villa, but we have a sneaking hunch she’s already an icon.
When the dental nurse first appeared on the reality TV programme a few days ago, she was met with some very harsh comments due to her age, which is, by the way, just 30.
We’ll say it again: she’s just 30.
But it didn’t sit well with some of the island’s younger residents, of whom there are many.
Some of the show’s youngest participants were still teens, with last year’s Gemma Owen being only 19 when she joined the resort.
Amelia Peters was supposed to be the show’s youngest ever participant when she was just 18 in season three.
This year, the youngest islander is Molly Marsh, who is 21.
But when glorious Charlotte – who is only 30, by the way – walked into the villa, contestants were baffled by her age.
While on a date with Tryique Hyde, 24, Charlotte revealed her age to him, to which he said in confused response: ‘You don’t look 30 though. You’ve got nice teeth you know.’
He later added: ‘You look good though!’
Zachariah Noble, another islander, too seemed perplexed by Charlotte’s age and appearance.
Some fans took to social media to call the behaviour out at the time, with one writing: ‘Lads, she’s just turned 30, she hasn’t just walked out of the nursing home. ‘
‘“You’ve got nice teeth” tyrique she’s 30 did you expect her to have dentures???,’ said another Love Island fan.
Charlotte, who was ejected from the villa with Andre Furtado in tonight’s spectacular double whammy, has had her say.
And, well, let’s just say her maturity comes through.
When asked what she felt about fellow Islanders’ reactions to her age, she offered this excellent response.
‘I just think don’t settle. There’s no rush. I’d rather take my time, be single, focus on myself and I want to meet my lifetime partner,’ she began.
‘I don’t want to meet someone and just be with them for a few years. ‘Do you’, don’t put any pressure on it. Nowadays people stress.
‘But really, it doesn’t matter if you’ve not got it sorted out. Everything happens for a reason.
‘Where you are in your life is for a reason and it will happen when you least expect it. I feel young, it doesn’t matter.
Now that’s something worth talking about.
Love Island continues Sunday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX
