Celebrity Race Across the World viewers appreciated Freddy Brazier for opening out about feeling inadequate as a result of his ADHD.
The 20-year-old is presently participating on the BBC series with his father, Jeff Brazier, 45, in which they must travel through South America without smartphones or bank cards.
On the most recent episode, the couple took a job at a campsite on the outskirts of Cascavel, Brazil, where they were requested to earn money by first chopping firewood.
Jeff was delighted to see his son ‘persevere’ with tasks, even if he believed he was ‘no good at it’.
Speaking to the camera, he went on to explain how his son’s strengths were ‘absolutely numerous’, but that he ‘struggled to see it in himself’.
‘A lot of the time I think he sees himself as being inadequate and inferior and not enough,’ he shared.
Speaking about his difficulties while in the classroom, Freddie then admitted he found school ‘tough’.
‘I was that kid in class who struggled, and my concentration wasn’t the best and I was a bit of a joker,’ he said.
Freddie, who was just four years old when his mother Jade Goody died of cancer, went on to relate how he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder at the age of ten.
‘I didn’t mean to misbehave, but I didn’t know how to cope with everything that was going on. I don’t think I was bad, but I wasn’t good,’ he continued.
Going on to speak about his son, Jeff said he knew Freddie would ‘go on to do something amazing in his lifetime’.
‘We need the pioneers and the people who give a completely different opinion, and that’s what Fred’s role is going to be. I see it, I’ve always seen it, and I look forward to him realising it one day, where it will all click and fall into place,’ he added.
Watching the programme, many viewers shared how emotional it had made them.
‘Breaks my heart a little, hearing Freddie feels inadequate. At that age, you should just feel free and have fun, without having those doubts,’ user Wando posted on X.
‘With each episode that passes by – I adore Freddy & Jeff even more. The bonding with the locals was lovely. Freddy was brave to open up on his ADHD diagnosis at the age of 10. He’s been through so much…’ Ryan commented.
‘Jeff Brazier seems like such a great dad. Let’s Freddy take responsibility but always seems really lovely too,’ Steph added.
Meanwhile, user AAngels05 wrote: ‘The more I see of Freddy the more I can’t help but adore him. Jade would deffo be proud of both of her boys.’
Jeff shares sons Bobby, 21, and Freddie with his late partner, who died in 2009 aged 27 after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.
On last week’s episode Freddy held back tears as he spoke about his mum’s death.
‘I lost my mum when I was four and that was on Mother’s Day, which is really hard. I don’t really like showing my emotions. I don’t even speak to my dad much about my mum either. I just avoid it. I prefer to bottle it up,’ he revealed.
‘I don’t want to feel like I’m a burden to them. A lot of my memories that I have of my mum have come from watching a documentary, YouTube clips, newspapers, they are not my memories.’
While holding back tears, he continued: ‘I don’t really remember being held by my mum. If I had more memories of her, it would have made it a whole lot harder for me.’
