Carol Kirkwood has hinted at her ambitions for once her term at the BBC ends.

After joining the BBC as a secretarial reserve in 1993, the weather forecaster, 63, has been a regular on BBC Breakfast with the likes of Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt.

She joined the BBC’s Weather Centre three years later and has since won multiple Tric Awards for outstanding TV weather presenter.

She does not want to stay there indefinitely, however, and has hinted at her future professional move in a recent interview.

Carol told Prima Magazine that while she enjoys her multiple professions for the time being, it ‘would be lovely to retire one day and focus on my writing’.

She said: ‘At the moment, I have two careers running in parallel and they’re both full-time, so it’s time-consuming.

‘But I also love both of them and, if you want something done, ask a busy person.

‘I can’t imagine I’ll be doing the weather when I’m 90 though!’

The author of Under a Greek Moon, who has three published books, previously stated that she feels ‘no pressure whatsoever’ about her appearance.

The Strictly star went on: ‘I feel no pressure whatsoever about how I look.

‘I’m just into my 60s, but I think the positive is that you care less about what people think of you.

‘You hear people’s opinions, but you don’t take them on board as much as when you’re younger.’

Carol, who keeps her personal life secret, previously stated that she expected to be fired within the next ten years.

‘I try not to worry about things I can’t change,’ Carol said. ‘I don’t want to go, but one day it’s going to happen.

‘Hopefully, it will be natural but I also have to acknowledge I’m 60 and am unlikely to be at the BBC when I’m 70, I would have thought.’

She added in an interview last year: ‘It’s the natural course of events… I don’t want to be using a stairlift to get to the studio in the morning. But I love my job.’

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
