Call The Midwife series 11 is set to conclude tonight with episode eight of the beloved BBC drama.

Fans have already warned they’ll ‘riot’ if Sister Julienne (played by Jenny Agutter) or Dr Turner (Stephen McGann) fail to survive the devastating train crash which is set to wreak havoc in the closing chapter.

‘The team rushes to the aid of the injured in the wake of a terrible tragedy that has devastated the Poplar community – but there is no news of whether Sister Julienne or Dr Turner have survived,’ the synopsis for the instalment teases.

‘A guilt-stricken Timothy goes in search of his father, while an oblivious Sister Higgins learns what of the catastrophic events occurring nearby while she is in the middle of a delivery.’

It was confirmed last year that the show had been renewed for seasons 12 and 13, which are set to air in 2023 and 2024.

Writer and creator Heidi Thomas said at the time: ‘It’s an incredible privilege to be able to look back on a decade of Call The Midwife, and yet know that our journey is still very far from over.

‘We are thrilled to be going on for a few more years! Like Nonnatus House itself, we have a proud past but an even more exciting future – full of old favourites, fresh faces, higher hemlines, new ideas.

‘The stories we tell are like babies – they never stop coming, we love them all, and we vow to do our best by every single one.’

Executive producer Pippa Harris added: ‘We are all delighted by this vote of confidence from the BBC, and are looking forward to delivering more laughter, tears and babies for our loyal fans.

‘Over the past ten years it has been an honour to see how warmly the show has been embraced by audiences around the world, thanks to the skilful writing of Heidi Thomas and the brilliant work of our cast and crew.’

Call The Midwife is set to air tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
