Jamie Lynn Spears has agreed to star in the film adaptation of the popular 00s comedy Zoey 101.
Britney Spears‘ sister, Zoey Brooks, played the role of Zoey Brooks in the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice award-winning drama, which aired from 2005 to 2008 and also included Elvis actor Austin Butler.
The plot revolves around Zoey’s adventures, romances, and friendships as she enrols in a prominent Californian boarding school that has previously exclusively accepted guys.
The final episode concluded on a dramatic cliffhanger, with the kids creating a time capsule in which Zoey left a DVD message expressing what her friends meant to her, including her longtime crush Chase Matthews (Sean Flynn).
But she later informed Chase that he would discover her true feelings for him in ten years.
The movie reboot, which is being produced by Nickelodeon and will air on Paramount Plus later this year, might potentially answer that question, with Sean among the cast members.
Erin Sanders from Quinn Pensky, Matthew Underwood from Logan Reese, Christopher Massey from Michael Barret, and Abby Wilde from Stacey Dillsen will all appear in the revival.
The film, Zoey 102, will follow Pacific Coast Academy alumni as they rejoin after their school years for a large wedding.
Alexa Nikolas, who played Nicole Bristow on the show, is said to pull out of the production because she “didn’t feel comfortable” as a young actress.
In August, the 30-year-old held a protest outside the Nickelodeon studios, claiming she was treated ‘traumatically’ there.
The actress, who heads the organisation and campaign Eat Predators, which fights for survivors of sexual assault, claimed she was ‘not safe’ at Nickelodeon as a youngster, adding on Instagram Live: ‘I did not feel protected at Nickelodeon as a child, personally.’
‘I’m demanding that Nickelodeon starts protecting children and not predators.’
She told TMZ: ‘Never in a million years,’ would she go back to Zoey 101, claiming ‘it was so traumatic, I would be triggered from day one’.
Zoey 101 returns to Paramount Plus later this year.
