The Brit Awards 2021 have been slapped with Ofcom complaints from viewers peeved by Jack Whitehall’s jokes and the lack of social distancing.
The annual ceremony took place on Tuesday, May 11 at The O2 Arena in London, with the presenter poking fun at a number of celebrities, including former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan and singer Craig David.
Referencing Piers’ exit from the ITV daytime programme this year and Craig’s music career, Jack quipped: ‘This arena has been emptier than Piers Morgan’s diary and had more comebacks than Craig David.’
Sadly though, Jack’s humour wasn’t to everyone’s taste as some flocked to television watchdog Ofcom to air their grievances.
Others also criticised the event for its lack of social distancing, despite the ceremony trialing the Government’s live events pilot scheme, meaning attendees weren’t required to be socially distanced or wear face coverings once seated.
In total, Ofcom received 122 complaints in response to this year’s Brits, which aired on ITV.

A spokesperson for Ofcom told Metro.co.uk: ‘Complaints covered a variety of issues – some objecting to the performances, the presenter’s jokes, lack of diversity of nominees, lack of social distancing and offensive language.’
This year’s Brits was jam-packed with action.
Little Mix thanked Jesy Nelson as they made history as the first female band to win the Brit Award for best British group, while Dua Lipa used her acceptance speech to call for a pay rise for NHS workers.
Elsewhere, rapper Headie One took aim at the Government over free school meals and addressed the negative public perception of drill music during an impassioned performance.
Lewis Capaldi was muted while on stage as he launched into a sweary rant aimed at the audience, viewers at home and himself.
