Warning: spoilers ahead for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Bridgerton fans have been waiting for this moment since 2020: finally, a homosexual romance has received the attention it deserves in the franchise’s new prequel series.
Fans are overjoyed to have observed the passionate connection between the Queen’s secretary Brimsley (Sam Clemmett) and the King’s secretary Reynolds (Freddie Dennis) in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story during the early days of the royal couple’s reign.
If Netflix is accepting submissions for new spin-offs… Maybe a devoted Brimsley and Reynolds love story? We’d absolutely come.
Golda Rosheuvel reprises her role as Queen Elizabeth II, while India Amarteifio makes her debut as the teenage, newly-married Charlotte, opposite Corey Mylchreest as the charming, naïve King George III.
Brimsley and Reynolds are secretly romantically linked with one another behind closed doors, which they keep hidden from the rest of the Palace and society, as revealed in the second episode.
Bridgerton fans had believed that an LGBT romance was in the works when a trailer for a previous season revealed a quick sight of two guys in an embrace.
However, while some originally thought one of the men could have ended up being Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) – due to insinuations that he might not have been straight – it turned out to be two minor characters who were barely featured, leaving many sorely disappointed by having their hopes built up while accusing Netflix of ‘queerbaiting’.
To reiterate, this has been a long time coming – about two and a half years – and supporters are ecstatic about the anticipated development.
‘Queen Charlotte is finally giving us the gays!!!’ one person tweeted enthusiastically, while another said that they’d ‘won’ by Brimsley being confirmed to be gay.
Someone else remarked: ‘Oh oh it’s taking a gay turn?!?!?? And I’m here for it!!!!’
