Blake Lively longs for Paul Hollywood handshake on birthday in most bizarre advert of 2023 so far

We never imagined a Blake Lively and Paul Hollywood collaboration, yet here we are.

The Great British Bake Off bread whiz, 57, and the 36-year-old Gossip Girl star are a, erm, unexpected duo. She’s Hollywood royalty, and he’s… Paul Hollywood.

Sorry, Paul, as you are a national baking treasure. Aside from that, the couple appeared in an advertisement for Blake’s gormet effervescent mixer brand Betty Booze.

The star recently launched the alcohol brand, which claims to blend the ‘freshest fruits, spices, herbs and more with authentic spirits and just the perfect amount of bubbles to create unrivalled, indisputably delicious beverages’, and it appears that she is now targeting the UK market.

Who better to put her new effervescent concoctions to the test than the voice of British culinary reason?

Blake is shown hesitantly handing the TV chef her goods, a play on Paul’s famed Great British Bake Off handshake, which he bestows exclusively to the most worthy finalists of the Channel 4 show.

‘Do you like it?’ asks a timid Blake after barging into Paul’s house with a basket of drinks demanding his professional opinion.

Taking a swig, Paul looks up at the US star with those piercing wolf eyes and says four words to end all four words: ‘I really like it.’

‘Yeah?’ smiles Blake with a huge sigh of relief.

‘It is absolutely beautiful,’ he continues. ‘I think really good. The tang, the balance with the ginger, it’s spot on.’

But before Blake can get over such complimentary words from the most critical Bake Off judge, he pulls out his hand, apparently poised for the legendary Hollywood handshake.

Someone has clearly been watching Bake Off in her Welsh pad in between husband Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham AFC matches, because Blake looks down in awe as Paul’s outstretched hand glows up biblically.

But unfortunately for Blake, he continues past her and instead of offering his hand goes in for another can. We suppose that’s good enough of a compliment.

‘It’s so easy to grab and go,’ he commented.

Blake captioned the post as she wrote: ‘Finally made it in Hollywood. @bettybooze @paul.hollywood happy birthday to me 🎁.’

It is the star’s birthday today, and the contents of her birthday post have stunned us. We simply were not anticipating this.

All Blake’s mates were loving the little promo clip, as model Gigi Hadid wrote: ‘U da best 🎂’

Paul commented with a playful: ‘You cake my day on your special day @blakelively 🤝 @bettybooze.’

Hugh Jackman said: ‘The (non)handshake is everything. Happy birthday to my friend Miss @bettybooze.’

Husband Ryan was loving the clip, as he commented with three love heart smiling emoji.

However, it appears Blake made an error at first, as several speculated she tagged the wrong Paul in her post before amending it.

‘This guy @paulhollywood just got a notification from Blake Lively… wonders why his phone is blowing up 😆 #wrongpaul,’ one said.

Whatever next…

Does Blake Lively drink?

Some people are perplexed as to why Blake claims in the Betty Booze video that she does not drink (but does consume alcohol in other sweets).

Blake does not drink, as she once told TODAY.com: ‘I don’t drink because I don’t like the effects of alcohol, but I like being social.’

The star said this during a mixology class celebrating the launch of her alcohol-free mixers in 2021, Betty Buzz. She has now launched another line, Betty Booze, which are alcoholic mixers.

Blake experienced outrage from fans when she announced the launch in June, owing to the fact that she does not drink herself.

‘Drinking isn’t my thing. But for f* sake, flavour is,’ she wrote in the caption of the announcement. ‘Homemade recipes. Real fruit. Real ingredients. Quality booze. No crap. Also a real time saver. Which is why I really did it.’

In another promotional post, Blake claimed that ‘zero alcohol’ Betty Buzz is ‘good for all ages and preferences,’ and Betty Booze is ‘for those who want the alcohol because that’s what hosts do’.
