Blake Harrison apologises to fans on The Inbetweeners’ 15th anniversary

The Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison apologised to fans on the show’s anniversary.

Blake played Neil Sutherland on three seasons of the coming-of-age adolescent sitcom, as well as its two films, from 2008 to 2010.

Now, 15 years after the sitcom initially aired, the actor, 37, has shared some flashback photos on social media with old co-stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, and James Buckley.

‘A little show I did is 15 years old today,’ he captioned the post.

‘First episode aired 1 May 2008. Sorry for making you feel old!’

Fans instead thanked him for being a part of a show they enjoyed, despite his apology.

‘Greatest show in history. I will make sure generations of my kids watch this masterpiece. Just did my third rewatch recently,’ one person posted on Twitter.

‘And every episode is still as funny as it was the first time. Absolute classic of a series,’ someone else said.

Another added: ‘Laughter is the greatest medicine. Must have watched every episode and film a minimum of 20 times since. Genius right from episode one.’

The sitcom, produced by Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, also generated two spinoff films, The Inbetweeners Movie, set in Malia in 2011, and a sequel, set in Australia, in 2014.

Blake has gone on to feature in A Very English Scandal, The Great, Doctor Who, and I Hate Suzie in the years since the programme ended.

While his character was at the centre of many memorable moments, he revealed Neil’s hilarious dance moves were the ‘bane’ of his life two years ago.

He claims that while they used to help him garner female attention, they now merely drive others to videotape him.

‘I might have got a couple of snogs off the back of a few dance moves in my time,’ he said.

‘For me, it was always, hit the dance floor as much as possible with good tunes, break out a few decent moves and see if anyone is magnetised to the moves. Then Inbetweeners comes along, I use it, and then I’ve never been able to dance again. It’s the bane of my life.’

‘Now whenever I’m at a wedding, if I go even near the dance floor, you see guests pulling their phones out to try and film you. And you’re like, “Ah, I can’t do it now”.’

Around the same time, the actor admitted he was surprised people were still tuning in years later and that he couldn’t understand its success.

‘You’d be amazed at how young some kids are when they do watch it,’ he explained, revealing some parents are allowing their nine-year-olds to tune in,’ he explained.

‘People come up to me, “He loves the show.” I’m like, “How old is he?”’ “He’s nine”.’

Blake then joked about how surprised he was by the discovery and questioned their parenting choices.

The Inbetweeners is streaming on All4.
