Bill Bailey has opened up about his grief after the death of his friend and fellow comedian Sean Lock, who he says he ‘misses’ greatly.
Former 8 Out Of 10 Cats star Lock died on August 16, 2021 at the age of 58 following a private battle with cancer.
Last week, Bailey, 57, began a 100-mile trek which will see him walk from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon – one of his and Lock’s favourite routes – in order to ‘celebrate his life while doing something he loved so much’.
The group, including comedian Lee Mack, are raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support which provided care for Lock and his family during his time of poor health.
So far, more than £105,000 has been raised in donations through a JustGiving page.
Speaking as the trek continued on Monday morning, Bailey told Good Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins: ‘I miss him all the time, everyday.
‘Grief is hard to pin down, it’s not something that’s an exact science, you never know how it’s going to affect you and it can sometimes just ambush you.’
The former Strictly Come Dancing star continued: ‘A phrase, a turn of phrase, a piece of music. Even a stretch of coastline that you walk, suddenly you get this flood of memories and that will trigger this response.
‘It’s very important to talk about it, I think talking about the person, reminiscing about them, keeping their memory alive is a way of dealing with it.’
A message on the JustGiving page reads: ‘On the 7-day walk from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon, one of our favourite routes, I will be joined by Sean’s family and friends.
‘The walk will be a chance to get together and celebrate his life while doing something he loved so much.
‘Every penny donated will help Macmillan to provide emotional, physical and financial support for people living with cancer in the UK.’
Following Lock’s death last year, Bailey told ITV News that they ‘tried to make the most of the last few years’, and made sure to spend quality time together, including embarking on various trips.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
