New Below Deck cast member Shane Coopersmith has revealed how strenuous the work can be as a deckhand aboard the My Seanna superyacht ahead of season 8.
This week, Below Deck is returning with almost an entire new crew, with the exception of captain Lee Rosbach and returning original cast member Eddie Lucas.
One of the new hands on deck is Californian Shane Coopersmith, who graduated with a degree in environmental sustainability from UC Berkeley and goes by the name ‘Sustainable Shane’ on Instagram.
In the lead-up to the premiere of the new series of the reality show, which follows the yacht crew as they navigate rocky waters in their professional and personal lives, Shane gave an insight into what working on the boat is really like.
In a post shared on Instagram, he wrote that working as a deckhand on the yacht has been ‘one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences of my life’.
‘Funny how challenging and rewarding often couple together huh?’ he added.
Shane also revealed that on some days, he would work up until 2am in the morning, before having to be back in action just four hours later.
‘Sometimes I’d work until 2am and then have to be on deck by 6am the next morning to scrub the decks,’ he wrote.
The deckhand added that on some occasions when he went to go to bed, he would sleep with his ‘shammy’, a utensil he used to clean the boat.
However, all the hard work was worth it, as Shane got to enjoy ‘the beautiful location’ with his ‘amazing crew mades’, he said.
‘Oh yah, and the big tips,’ he added. Now we get the appeal of mopping a yacht floor.
Below Deck season 8 is premiering on Bravo on Monday 2 November.
In the UK and Ireland, episodes will be available to stream on hayu from Tuesday 3 November.
