BBC’s Happy Valley will be returning to our screens very soon and fans will be delighted to see some new faces as well as some familiar ones joining Sarah Lancashire.
The third and final season of the series is currently in production, with James Norton returning as villain Tommy Lee Royce and Siobhan Finneran back as Clare Cartwright, the sister of Sarah’s iconic character Sergeant Catherine Cawood.
With six new episodes on the horizon, fans were treated to a first look at the lead actor in character as the Sergeant.
In a new update, BBC announced on Wednesday that Con O’Neill will reprise his role as Clare’s recovering alcoholic boyfriend Neil Ackroyd.
George Costigan will also be back as Nevison Gallagher, with Charlie Murphy as his daughter and Catherine’s police colleague Ann.
Favourites including Derek Riddell (Richard Cawood), Karl Davies (Daniel Cawood), Susan Lynch (Alison Garrs), Rick Warden (Mike Taylor) Vincent Franklin (Andy Shepherd), and Rhys Connah (Ryan Cawood) will also return in the upcoming series.
Those joining the cast include actors Amit Shah, Mark Stanley and Mollie Winnard, with the stars playing significant roles in Happy Valley’s final chapter.
The crime drama previously received critical acclaim, with series two attracting an average audience of 9.3million viewers.
Seasons one and two also won the BAFTA Television awards for both drama series and writing – which was a recognition of creator Sally Wainwright’s work.
Meanwhile, Sarah was triumphant in the leading actress category in 2017.
The third season’s synopsis, which was revealed back in autumn, reads: ‘When Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir it sparks a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce.
‘Her grandson Ryan is now sixteen and still living with Catherine, but he has ideas of his own about what kind of relationship he wants to have with the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as his father.
‘Still battling the seemingly never-ending problem of drugs in the valley and those who supply them, Catherine is on the cusp of retirement.’
Filming will continue in Calderdale over the coming months.
