Lukwesa Burak, a BBC news reporter, has broken her silence after a dramatic on-air error left viewers in stitches.
Burak, 49, discovered she was still live on TV on Thursday, just after giving a morning news section. She had assumed the show had ended.
The uncomfortable seconds that followed were excruciating, as she had to analyse her error in silence.
‘This is BBC News,’ she concluded her broadcast, and the BBC News title credits began to roll.
But, just as the clip cut to a scene involving bagpipes, which appeared to be shown only to international viewers, the camera returned to Burak, and she had no idea.
‘Okay!’ she breathed out, stretching her arms up, before her jaw dropped and she looked straight back down with a sombre expression.
Trying to recover from the agony of thousands of people seeing the reporter stare down at the papers on her desk, Burak went on: ‘One of our top stories here on the programme…’
She quickly covered up the incident by gazing at the desk in front of her, but the film made its way through to social media, leaving onlookers entertained.

After many praised her professionalism covering up the gaffe, Burak wrote on Twitter: ‘Thank you folks: Colleagues – present & former, and all you wonderful viewers. X.’
As one person wrote ‘You made my morning,’ Burak replied: ‘Here to serve. X.’
She also responded in the comments with gifs and emoticons, with one admirer writing, ‘Now I don’t begrudge a dime of the licence price.’
‘Don’t worry, don’t think anyone saw…’ the official Specsavers account joked.
