BBC newsreader delivers ‘savage’ burn on one of Tinder’s ‘most-swiped men’ – cackling that he’s still single

A BBC newsreader chatting to one of Tinder’s ‘most-swiped men’ couldn’t contain his laughter at the revelation that the man in question is still single… and people on Twitter have dubbed his reaction completely ‘savage’.

On today’s BBC News, journalist Ben Brown spoke to dating coach James Langton to mark the 10-year anniversary of Tinder, which was first launched in 2012.

Three years ago, James was included on the dating app’s ‘top 30 list’, a list of a group of the most-swiped people on the platform used by millions of people across the globe.

Following the exposure he received, he launched his own dating app, called Dater Help, which provides people with guidance on creating the ‘perfect dating app profile’, he said, ‘like CV writing’.

After chatting about the success and growth of dating apps over the past decade, as well as the way in which the stigma surrounding dating apps has reduced throughout the years, Ben asked James: ‘Did you meet your partner on Tinder?’

‘I’m actually single at the minute,’ shared, before explaining that he believes his ‘problem’ is that he’s ‘going for people who are out of my range’.

‘That’s maybe my issue at the minute. No, I’m very much single, which I realise the irony of being a dating app coach and being single,’ he added.

‘But I think people should judge me by the metrics of how many people get more matches and more dates, rather than me maybe.’

As he signed off from the interview, Ben concluded: ‘There we are, anybody out there. James Langton, one of the most popular men on Tinder, one of the most swiped guys on Tinder is actually single at the moment,’ before breaking into laughter.

Ben thanked James for his time, while the dating coach – described as the ‘world’s leading dating-app coach’ on a Vimeo video for his company – thanked the newsreader for the interview.

However, despite the farewell pleasantries, plenty of people on Twitter found Ben’s scorching burn on James’ dating life absolutely ‘ruthless’ and ‘savage’.

‘You have to write a complaint to Ofcom after that,’ one person quipped, as another wrote: ‘A murder, live on the BBC.’

‘It’s the laugh for me – savage,’ someone else commented, as another similarly-shocked person added: ‘Oh my goooood!! .’

This isn’t the first time Ben has caused a stir on BBC News, after apologising in December 2020 for being caught yawning live on air.

‘Apologies for this dear viewers – I was at the end of a long shift after a 5am start when the director cut to me by mistake. The perils of live TV!’ he tweeted at the time.
