The BBC has been forced to address viewer complaints after Mrs Brown’s Boys was dropped from the TV schedule earlier this month.

The comedy programme, which stars Brendan O’Carroll as Mrs Brown, was originally scheduled to air at 9:30pm on January 9.

However, due to extra time in the earlier Arsenal vs Newcastle football match, the schedule was pushed back for half an hour.

This meant that Casualty started at a later time than usual and Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel began at 9pm instead of 8.30pm.

Taking to its website, the BBC released a statement as it confirmed that it had received ‘more than 100 complaints’ about change in TV schedule.

‘As a live event, the match went into extra time and as a result there was inevitable disruption to the evening schedule,’ the statement began.

‘As viewers may appreciate, we were obliged to broadcast the match until it had ended.

‘We do however recognise the disappointment caused that Casualty and The Wheel were moved later in the schedule and that Mrs Brown’s Boys was dropped.’

Despite the comedy being axed from the schedule, fans don’t need to worry as Brendan Brendan recently confirmed that the show will be continuing until 2026.

The 65-year-old, who stars as Agnes Brown, created the character more than 20 years ago, with the slapstick series focused on the foul-mouthed Irish family becoming a Christmas Day staple.

‘It’s incredible that the BBC have nailed down such a special slot for Mrs Brown,’ the actor explained.

‘We’ve been doing it for nine years already — which is six more than the Royle Family had and more than Morecambe and Wise.’

‘This new deal we signed last week goes all the way to 2026, which means I will be able to grow into the part, and we’ve a clause in which guarantees Mrs Brown is aired at 10pm on Christmas night, or else we don’t have to make it,’ he added to The Irish Sun.

Mrs Brown’s Boys is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
