Emma Vardy, presenter of BBC Breakfast, has announced that she would be taking maternity leave.
The anchor was sitting in for co-anchor Nina Warhurst, who is also on maternity leave following the birth of her third child in July.
Emma, who was sitting on top of two washing machines, held up some laundry and quipped that she would have to get used to “housewife chores.”
‘Well that’s me off on mat leave!!’ she declared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
‘Resigned to an eternity of housewife chores & dirty laundry. Career girl out. (And if u believe that you’ll believe anything )
‘Celebrated the start of this new chapter with cocktails at this perfectly disguised speakeasy!! #TheWashhouse.’

Fans rushed to send their well wishes to the presenter.
‘All the best Emma … come back soon, you’re one of the best journalists on the Beeb,’ replied one particularly big fan, while another agreed: ‘All the very best and good luck with everything.
‘You are a fine broadcaster. What you are going to do well next will manifest and as it does you will shine. This much we know…’
Emma’s announcement comes after her co-anchor Nina revealed touching images of her dementia-stricken father meeting his infant grandchild for the first time last week.
It was as moving as you could possibly imagine.
Sharing a snap of her whole all-female brood, Nina wrote: ‘When you wanted a squad of lads, but Ma Nature had other plans.
‘Dad meets the latest addition. It was not quiet.’
We bet!
