Jon Kay of BBC Breakfast made fun of a ‘late’ show worker who actually ran live on air.
During Tuesday’s episode, hosts Jon and Sally Nugent were preparing to tackle the newest news stories.
A wide image of the couple sitting on the sofa was followed by a rapid pan to a BBC employee racing across the floor on the level above them.
Their intense jog didn’t go unnoticed as both presenters giggled and Jon joked: ‘Did you see that? Someone is obviously late for work this morning!’
Sally added:’ Someone is hopefully bringing us a cup of tea Jon I think that’s what that is.’
Viewers were equally baffled, with one replying: ‘When you send the whole document and not just the page to the printer.’
Another added: ‘For reference this is the floor below @BBCRadioManc – no one moves at that speed on our floor unless someone brings in cakes.’
A third tweeted: ‘One of the runners in a hurry to get your mug of tea.’
Presenter Jon parodied the event once again on social media, sharing a video of it on Twitter (now known as X).
He captioned the video: ‘When you’re late for work and the UK is watching…’

Fortunately, TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan highlighted the true cause for the worker’s departure.
‘BREAKING: I have spoken to the person running in this BBC Breakfast clip. He was running to a closing door to the 5Live studios,’ he tweeted.
‘Unfortunately, he did not make it in time.’

The couple laughed as Jon attempted to read from the script to warn viewers what else was in store for Tuesday’s episode.
‘The time is half past seven and you are watching BBC Breakfast with Sally Nugent and Jon Kay,’ he said.
‘We’ve been talking about going back to school and the price of uniforms.’
Sally quipped: ‘It’s enough to make anyone run away as they can be very expensive…’
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
