Warning: spoilers ahead for Ahsoka episode 3.

Given that the new Star Wars series Ahsoka is based on the animated episodes The Clone Wars and Rebels, there were certain to be allusions that pleased long-time fans of the primary character’s narrative.

Episode 3 of Rosario Dawson’s TV programme not only enthralled viewers, but also left many in tears due to a vital addition to the ensemble – Jacen Syndulla (Evan Whitten), who holds an Easter Egg with a significant tie to a revered Jedi Knight… his father.

Jacen is the son of Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr.) from the film Rebels.

In episode three of the live-action Disney Plus series, he announces his wish to become a Jedi to his mother while escorted by loyal droid Chopper.

The debut of Jacen was a highly thrilling event, but one important detail on his outfit put several supporters in a very emotional condition.

Some instantly observed that the small kid was dressed in an outfit that resembled his father’s equipment, including his pauldron – a piece of shoulder armour.

It was originally claimed that the white emblem on Kanan’s shoulder armour was an homage to the Jedi Order, as a manner of remembering his old Order after surviving the Order 66 slaughter, in which many Jedi perished.

One fan, evidently affected by the Kanan reference, shared images on X (previously Twitter) of Jacen as he tells his mother he wants to be a Jedi and Kanan in the cartoon programme.

‘Like my father before me,’ they wrote in their caption.

‘Jacen Syndullaa. I am going to start crying,’ someone else said, while another wrote: ‘THE SHOULDER ARMOR I CAN’T.’

Another fan speculated that while Ahsoka and Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) are searching for the missing Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), Ezra may instruct Jacen in the ways of the Jedi later on.

‘Yes! Give me Ezra Bridger training Jacen Syndulla to be a Jedi by the end,’ they said in hope.

One fan also commented on Jacen’s hair, which was changed to a deeper green colour – a tribute to his Twi’lek origin – rather than the brighter green shown in Rebels.

Another penned: ‘This was a shorter #Ahsoka episode. But boy did it deliver some punches that made me light up! If you’re a Rebels diehard, you love to see it.’

Ahsoka is available to watch on Disney Plus, with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
