Arnold Schwarzenegger and Salma Hayek duetting to Electric Avenue while dressed as Greek Gods for a Super Bowl 2022 ad probably wasn’t on your bingo card for this year, but here we are.
The Terminator actor, 74, channelled his inner Zeus for the brief clip, promoting the new BMW iX with the Eternals actress, 55, who plays his wife, Hera.
However, it’s not the Zeus that we’re all familiar with but instead a retired God who swapped out life in Mount Olympus for a quiet time in Palm Springs.
Clearly not fulfilled with retirement, he instead fills his time with pool days, a pet pegasus, golf trips, and unwittingly aiding his new neighbors, who use his powers to restart their electric goods.
Well you would, wouldn’t you…
Arnie’s Zeus is bored with life in the real world and soon declares: ‘That’s it! I’m done with this place,’ when he can’t make the microwave work – but Salma soon comes to his rescue with a new car.
The minute-long clip ends with the pair happily driving around the streets in the ‘ultimate electric driving machine’, while belting out Electric Avenue.
Honestly, we would watch an entire feature-length film out of their take on Zeus and Hera, and it turns out we’re not the only ones.
Discussing the scenes on social media, a fan posted: ‘Can they PLEASE make this a movie??? Lmaoooooo! Selma and Arnold are HILARIOUS #SuperBowl [sic].’
‘The BMW commercial with Arnold & Salma as Zeus & Hera in retirement was good! #SuperBowl,’ another said.
‘Arnold as Zeus is not something I thought I needed until now. #SuperBowl,’ one commented.
‘Super Bowl ads are starting to roll out. One of my favorites so far Zeus and Hera with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Salma Hayek #SuperBowl,’ a Twitter user agreed.
Elsewhere on the night, between that epic halftime show, Kanye West led the celebrity cameos, lending his face to McDonald’s new campaign in his own, unique way.
And we finally got a full-length trailer for Lord of the Rings prequel The Rings of Power, which is landing on Amazon Prime Video later this year.
