Antiques Roadshow left a guest completely gobsmacked when an expert valued the stylish clock he’s kept on his sideboard for 20 years at a whopping £20k.

After two sisters were shocked that their family Christmas decoration heirloom was priced at £30k in last week’s episode, tonight’s chapter didn’t disappoint and another high-priced gem was unearthed.

‘It’s very unusual. I’ve never seen one quite like this,’ expert Judith Miller mused. ‘It’s such a stylish example between art nouveau and arts and crafts.’

Explaining why he took a shining to it in the first place, the owner said: ‘It looked quite classic and I thought that would look nice on my sideboard. It’s been sat on my sideboard for over 20 years.’

‘This was high fashion and it would in its day have been very expensive,’ Judith continued.

‘The thing I’m really excited about is this copper face being off centre, and these flying birds. It’s so unusual.’

The owner revealed he had purchased the clock for £6k.

‘It was a lot of money, but I really liked it,’ he said.

‘If I was to put an evaluation on it, I would be talking £15k-£20k,’ the specialist revealed, much to her guest’s shock.

‘Goodness me,’ he blurted out in response to the figure. ‘I’m very surprised. Extremely surprised.’

Viewers at home were in awe of the object and shared their fascination.

‘I’d have his arm off for that clock,’ wrote one on Twitter as another penned: ‘This is a very stylish clock very typical of its period.’

Antiques Roadshow will be off air next week to make way for the Baftas 2021.

Dermot O’Leary and Edith Bowman are set to host the annual movie awards live from the Royal Albert Hall.

Nominees include Sound of Metal, Promising Young Woman, Rocks, Soul, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Mank, while Daniel Kaluuya, Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Kirby, Riz Ahmed, Frances McDormand and Chadwick Boseman are all up for gongs.

Antiques Roadshow airs Sundays at 7pm on BBC One.
