Anne Reid has indicated that there could be another Last Tango in Halifax Christmas special, but she has ruled out the series returning for another season.
Anne, 87, co-starred in Sally Wainwright’s BAFTA-winning drama Happy Valley with Sarah Lancashire, Nicola Walker, and Derek Jacobi.
The BBC One drama aired for five seasons and was last shown in 2014, when Caroline (Sarah) grieved the death of her wife Kate (Nina Sosanya) in front of 7.4 million people.
Yet, Anne has now conceded that that is not the end.
Ed Balls, the host of Good Morning Britain, who acknowledged to being a fan of the show, said on Tuesday’s broadcast, ‘Is there any chance of another series?’
‘Well it would be lovely,’ Anne replied.
‘I know Derek’s up for it, and I talked to Sarah, I don’t know about Nicola, she said “I think a Christmas special would be nice.”‘
‘We wouldn’t do another series, I don’t think now,’ Anne added.
She did tease, however: ‘We might do a Christmas special!’
In 2016, the BBC produced two ‘eventful’ Christmas specials set two years after Kate’s terrible death.
The specials saw: ‘Caroline coming to terms with yet more changes in her life. With a new job at a very different school, a new family home in Huddersfield and a chance encounter with a potential love interest, could things be looking up for her and her children?
‘Meanwhile, Gillian is struggling to come to terms with the unusual activity that keeps happening in the barn. With issues from her past coming back to haunt her, will she let them affect her relationship with Robbie (Dean Andrews)?’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 while Last Tango in Halifax is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
