Angela Scanlon has revealed the ‘rude’ advice she received from a former Strictly Come Dancing contestant – all in good fun, of course.
The 39-year-old Irish broadcaster, who presents BBC2’s Your House Made Perfect, has been added to the line-up for the upcoming season of the BBC dance series, with Adam Thomas, Bobby Brazier, and Love Island‘s Zara McDermott.
Angela recently expressed how delighted she was to find out who her partner is, and now she’s shared some advice that was provided to her – and it’s not quite what we expected.
The One Show presenter said: ‘Ellie Taylor said to me “Remember that this is a TV show first and foremost, and that you’re not a dancer.”
‘Which is actually pretty good, I’m going to get it on a t-shirt.
‘Like bit rude, but fine!’
She went on: ‘When you’re in the thick of it you’re kind of looking at the pros, and obviously it’s what they do all the time.
‘And you’re trying to keep up and feeling a bit disheartened but inevitably can’t, and it’s just a reminder.’
Angela added: ‘I’m going right to the edge of discomfort, so I’m here to learn.’
Ellie, a Ted Lasso actress, was on Strictly last year, where Hamza Yassin and Jowita Pryzstal won the glitterball trophy.
Ellie, who was partnered with Johannes Radebe on the BBC One show, confessed shortly after that she had no plans to continue dancing.
‘I would love to say yes, but no,’ she said on Lorraine.
‘What class am I going to possibly go to that will compete with dancing with Johannes from Strictly for eight hours a day one-on-one?
‘It’s just not going to work. I think I will leave it on a high and just have lovely memories.’
Angela expressed relief after being confirmed as a member of the next season of Strictly Come Dancing.
‘I’m excited. I’m not great at keeping a secret, it’s a bit of a relief. But it’s all very real now,’ she told Zoe Ball on her Radio 2 Breakfast show.
She added: ‘I’ve told a few people. If you tell me a secret and it’s super guarded you can people confident I’m not going to blab it, but I’ve told 1700 of my closest friends.
‘I have no idea how my pelvic floor will react to that level of jumping.’
While Angela fought to keep her excitement in check, she also stated that she had many questions regarding the performance.
‘Will they make me tan? How itchy are sequins?! Do they do flesh coloured sports bras? Well – there’s only one way to find out, right!?
‘Now I’m panicking a bit… but also secretly thrilled about the prospect of all that glitter. Let’s go!’
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and iPlayer on Saturday, September 16.
