Angela Rippon shook up the dancefloor with a daring move that stunned Strictly Come Dancing watchers.
At 78, the renowned TV presenter is Strictly’s oldest-ever contender, but she proved age was no barrier as she danced the Cha Cha with professional partner Kai Widdrington to Dame Shirley Bassey’s Get The Party Started.
Angela stunned spectators with a spectacular high kick throughout the performance, stunning both fans and, crucially, the judges, in what was already a joyful and combative dance.
Craig Revel Horwood, who is infamously hard to impress, even described it as ‘jaw-dropping’ – as Tess Daly said she had ‘never seen him so happy.’
Motsi Mabuse said: ‘That was a statement, that’s how you start a Saturday night … my goodness!’
Shirley stated that the whole event made her ’emotional’ as she reflected on her and Angela’s past, with Angela having introduced her years earlier at the UK Championships.
Fans flocked to Twitter, aka X, where they shared their awe at Angela’s moves, many labeling her ‘A QUEEN, A STAR, AN ICON.’
Another joked the star was ‘reminding me that my hips are stiff’ as they shared a snap of Angela’s high kick, with another agreeing ‘I can’t even touch my toes.’
‘How can Angela Rippon get her leg up that high at 78?? I can’t even do that at 23,’ another shocked viewer said.
‘Just absolutely incredible Angela Rippon,’ one gushed, while more than one was already predicting a win for the TV icon.
‘I gotta say Angela Rippon has the energy and attitude of someone half her age! The dance looks so iconic,’ another fan declared.
Angela’s spectacular manoeuvres have sent her to the top of the leaderboard, with a whopping seven points from each of the judges – but there’s lots more to come.
After their stunning Samba, Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzma took up the top place.
