Andrea McLean revealed she feels ‘calmer’ and happier since making the decision to leave Loose Women after 13 years.

The presenter announced her departure in November, explaining that she wanted to try new things.

Speaking to Steph McGovern on her Channel 4 show Packed Lunch, Andrea explained to the host that she was launching a wellness and fitness project titled The Girl Is On Fire.

When asked by Steph if she feels happier since leaving Loose Women, the 51-year-old began: ‘I do, actually, I feel calm.’

‘I know this [This Girl Is On Fire] is what I would have loved when I was going through what I was going through.’

She went on to tell the host about her decision to leave the long-running ITV daytime show.

‘The pandemic changed everything in terms of my attitude,’ Andrea continued.

‘I’d always wanted to do something like this but I was always waiting for the right time.

‘There are people who are way smarter than me, made all these plans for 2020, and they didn’t know that wasn’t the right time. So there’s no such thing as a right time so why not just jump and hope it works.’

‘It was a hard decision to leave behind everything I knew, but you don’t ever properly leave people, you still keep in touch,’ she added.

Steph jokingly asked Andrea whether her Loose Women pals would be annoyed with her being on her show.

‘They don’t know… I’m scared to look at my phone! Hiiii,’ she laughed.

Andrea revealed in December that she was leaving the talk show after suffering a breakdown in 2019.

‘As you know I had a really rough year last year, and I think that anyone who has experienced any kind of mental distress – I had a breakdown last year – and then obviously we had a global pandemic, you stop and think about your life,’ she told her Loose Women pals.

‘There were so many people talking about, “Oh I can’t wait for life to go back to as it was,” and I thought, well if you discount this year, and we go into next year, that means next year, I’ll be going back to 2019,’ she said.

‘You’re actually going backwards if you want everything to be exactly as it was and I want to look forward. So how do I want my life to be? And I realised, actually, I need to be brave, I need to make bold steps.’

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4.
