And Just Like That may be underperforming among ardent Sex And The City fans, but the show has been renewed for a third season.
‘We’re coming back for season 3!’ read the statement on Instagram, asking viewers to make one huge wish for a favourite character.
In a statement, Max’s head of original content Sarah Aubrey: ‘As we approach the highly anticipated season finale on Thursday, we raise our cosmos to [showrunner] Michael Patrick King and his magnificent team of writers, producers, cast and crew who continue to charm us, 25 years later, with dynamic friendships and engaging stories.
‘We cannot wait for audiences to see where season three will take our favorite New Yorkers.’
Following the show’s renewal, fans had one main request: they wanted to see more of Samantha Jones, who was masterfully played by the great Kim Cattrall.
‘Hopefully Samantha will be back full time,’ one person said, ahead of the character’s cameo in the season two finale.
‘Samantha return and the end of sex and city universe would be great!’ another stated, while someone else wrote: ‘This time time with Samantha 🙏🏼Fingers crossed 🤞🏼.’
Samantha did not appear in the first season of And Just Like That after Kim declared she would not be returning amid ongoing rumours about her estranged friendship with her old Sex And The City co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.
However, it was then confirmed that she will make a brief appearance in season two, with Samantha and Carrie Bradshaw exchanging a phone call (and therefore not being seen in the same room together).
‘We are pleased to spend more time in the Sex and the City world creating fresh tales about the lives of these sympathetic and ambitious characters performed by these fantastic performers,’ showrunner Michael Patrick King said of the season three renewal.
‘And Just Like That… here comes season three.’
While the third season is officially in the works, development on new episodes will not begin until the actors and writers’ strike in Hollywood ends.
