Amy Dowden revealed she struggled to fit into a bikini on her second honeymoon due to her ‘new physique and scars’ from cancer treatment.
The Welsh dancer, 33, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May and had to miss the most current season of Strictly Come Dancing while undergoing treatment, which included a mastectomy and chemotherapy.
She has also experienced blood clots, infections, and a fractured foot.
Amy, who began appearing on the show in 2017, completed her eighth round of chemotherapy last month and made a surprise cameo on the Strictly finale shortly thereafter.
She has already rushed out to Grenada for a trip with husband Benjamin Jones, where she is recording a Lorraine feature.
Amy talked on Tuesday about the significance of the vacation, which occurred after she discovered a tumour on her breast a day before departing for her Maldives honeymoon the previous year.
Amy stated in the first installment that the previous year had been ‘difficult’ due to a cancer diagnosis, treatment, a mastectomy, and some setbacks.
However, she stated that she was ‘determined to get my life back on track’.
Amy began by reflecting on the ‘toughest year’ of her life, describing how her life had changed in an instant and how much she had lost.
‘Everything I had planned just went,’ she said.
Amy described her first honeymoon as having a ‘cloud’ over her and not feeling present since she was hiding the pregnancy from her husband.
Later talking about what their current getaway meant, Amy shared: ‘Before coming to Grenada, last week I had seven appointments in one week so coming here and getting some Vitamin D, escaping hospital wards and appointments and medication is just gorgeous!’
She added: ‘I’ve got a new body, I’ve got scars, but I think it’s something that I’ve got to learn over time I’m going to accept, it’s not going to just happen overnight.
‘I’m being put into situations that I wasn’t at home, having to put a bikini on, being all exposed in summer wear than at home wrapped up in jumpers, jeans and boots.
‘Hopefully it’s only going to get progressively better!’
Amy recently reflected about their first honeymoon, saying she didn’t want to inform her husband about what she discovered for fear of scaring him.
‘But every day when I was putting suntan lotion on or I was moisturising I could feel it and I was just worrying more and more,’ she said.
‘Unfortunately, now when I think of that honeymoon, I think of the start of my breast cancer journey. I just knew the entire holiday. I just had this gut feeling. I just knew,’ she added when speaking to The Mirror.
Amy also admitted she believed her honeymoon would be her ‘last holiday ever’.
Strictly Come Dancing is streaming on BBC iPlayer. Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV1.
