Amanda Holden still finds it funny that her low-cut dresses on Britain’s Got Talent sparked Ofcom complaints, and says ‘everyone else [has] sexualised’ her outfits.
The TV presenter is famous for wearing the most glam gowns when appearing as a judge on the ITV talent competition.
Last year, some viewers were particularly offended by one of Amanda’s dresses – a sparkly blue gown which boasted a strapless neckline down to her cleavage. Ofcom received 235 complaints over the outfit after some critics claimed they could ‘could see her nipples’.
Looking back on the drama, Amanda, 50, told the Sunday Mirror’s Notebook magazine: ‘I laugh at how a bit of side boob can cause such a furore. I’m like, well as long as they’re talking about my t**s… [laughs] I find it funny.
‘We should be able to dress how we want. There’s no interpretation. I’m not sexy, it’s everyone else sexualising. I think I was the top complaint until Piers Morgan overtook me. Damn!’
When it was noted that her side boob was officially less offensive than Piers storming off Good Morning Britain, which earned more than 50,000 complaints, Amanda laughed: ‘I would much rather people be offended by how I look than by how I speak. 100%.’
The Heart Breakfast presenter addressed the complaints over her dress at the time and wrote in an Instagram story: ‘Mmmm really? Who has nipples this close to their cleavage? FYI a bones corset dented the girls all night.’
Amanda admitted she was looking forward to returning to BGT next year after the last series was cancelled due to Covid restrictions making it difficult to film with a live audience.
BGT judge David Walliams recently confirmed the hit programme was on course to return in 2022, and said on ITV’s Lorraine last week: ‘We’re booked in to do the auditions in January.’
Before then, the presenter will spend Christmas on holiday in the Caribbean with her husband Chris Hughes and daughters Hollie and Alexa.
