Amanda Abbington has admitted that she is already in pain one day into Strictly Come Dancing, with tears streaming down her face as she prepares for more hard training.
The BBC competition’s 2023 series is expected to begin shortly, with talents like as Adam Thomas, Layton Williams, and Bobby Brazier fighting for the Glitterball Trophy with their professional partners.
Amanda, from Sherlock and Mr. Selfridge, is also among them, and has been outspoken on social media about how painful it is for her feet to tolerate the intense physical act of dancing.
Amanda struggled to sit down on the floor to put on her comfortable shoes after a day of rehearsals, according to a video uploaded on Instagram by her fiancé Jonathan Goodwin.
‘How are you feeling this morning Amanda?’ former Britain’s Got Talent star Jonathan asked, to which Amanda replied: ‘I feel a little bit fragile, I’m not going to lie.’
While her arms and legs were OK, her feet were a different story, according to the 51-year-old.
‘I welled up upstairs in tears thinking about having to put my dance shoes on again,’ she added.
Even putting on her trainers, which Amanda described as the’most comfortable’ shoes she has, caused her to wince and scream in pain.
While her right foot wasn’t as terrible, she said that a horrible blood blister had formed on the bottom of her left foot.
Amanda had a straightforward response when Jonathan, 43, wondered why dancing shoes felt so much worse than other shoes.
‘Because the people who created them hate women,’ she responded, laughing. ‘And they wanted to give them as much pain as possible while enjoying a nice recreational activity.’
Jonathan offered she put the shoes on for the camera, but she refused because doing so would require her to take them off again, causing her much more pain.
Amanda stated that she had received a text message from her fellow Strictly participant Les Dennis, who claimed that he couldn’t move after starting his training.
Meanwhile, Amanda learned from the other female contenders that they, too, were having difficulties getting their shoes on.
Today, the cast has a dress rehearsal and interviews ahead of the big launch show, which is just around the horizon.
Strictly Come Dancing 2023 returns on Saturday September 23 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
