Alison Hammond has disclosed that Eamonn Holmes spoke at her mother’s funeral.
Maria, the former Big Brother star’s mother, died in January 2020 after a struggle with liver and lung cancer, and her burial was held a month later.
Now, the This Morning host, 48, has claimed that Eamonn, 63, not only attended but also spoke during her mother’s memorial service.
Alison reflected on the day, saying they gave her mother ‘the most beautiful’ send-off, and her old This Morning colleague stepped up to talk about Maria, who had been a tremendous admirer of his.
‘Even Eamonn Holmes came to that, actually,’ she said.
‘He did a speech, because my mum was obsessed with Eamonn Holmes and I asked him if he’d come.
‘He did a speech, came to the funeral, which was lovely,’ she added while appearing on Gyles Brandreth’s Rosebud podcast, which is released later this week.
Alison grew tearful earlier this year when she learned it had been three years after her mother’s passing while anchoring This Morning with Dermot O’Leary.
During a segment, the two hosts were chatting about callers about their superstitions, and one viewer asked for guidance on coping with the 13th since they linked the day with tragedy.
After Alison suddenly realised what the day was, she said: ‘I’ve just realised it’s the 13th of January, today isn’t it? This is the date my mum passed away in bed 13.
‘And we buried her on February 13th. It’s just literally come to me. And we did it on the 13th because I thought, “Why not?”
‘So I don’t associate [the 13th] with anything bad. And it was a lovely funeral. It’s literally just come to me. Sorry.’
On the two-year anniversary of her mother’s passing, Alison paid homage to her mother on Instagram, accompanying a photo of Maria when she was younger.
She wrote at the time: ‘Mummy two years today you left me and the pain has never left my heart. I love and Miss you sooo much . I hear and feel you all the time. My Angel Maria.’
Alison also lost her father, Clifford, shortly after her mother died in 2020.
Her father, who lived in Jamaica, died four months later in June, and Alison expressed regret on social media about not spending as much time with him as she would have liked.
She claimed she was’saddened’ she couldn’t attend his burial and felt ‘a feeling of loss and emptiness.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
