This year’s festive commercials are coming in thick and fast, with John Lewis dropping Unexpected Guest last week and Disney melting our hearts with a stepdad spending his first Christmas with his new family. Aldi has teased their campaign is just around the corner and shared a snippet of newcomer Ebanana Scrooge, a heartbroken banana, in a short clip online. In the video, which tells a revamped version of the Christmas story, the little yellow fruit’s dreams are dashed when Santa rejects him for a mince pie. ‘A little banana closed his eyes tight hoping to meet Santa that cold Christmas night,’ the voiceover says. Ebanana is seen excitedly lying on a plate but Santa reaches down to pick up a mince pie instead. Ebanana Scrooge is the new star of Aldi’s Christmas adverts (Picture: Aldi) ‘Santa! Wait!,’ the banana cries out, before adding: ‘Oh… why didn’t he take me? I hate Christmas.’ While viewers expressed their love for the new addition, many wondered where on earth Kevin The Carrot, who has featured in Aldi’s Christmas adverts for the last two years, had got to. ‘Ebanana is cute, but he better not be replacing Kevin!’ wrote one. ‘Now, the both of them starring side by side, now that is something I could get behind…’ Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ‘Aww Ebanana you do seem cute but this better not be the end for Kevin…..’ Kevin the Carrot puts on a show in the 2019 Aldi Christmas advert… but it looks like he’s had his day (Picture: Aldi) Sadly, Aldi has strongly hinted that fans have seen the last of Kevin and his carrot family. ‘This Christmas is all about bananas at Aldi!’ reads a statement on the supermarket’s website. ‘We’ve fallen in love with these cute yellow fruits and we think you will too. Watch the start of this exciting new story as one particular banana tries to fulfil his Christmas wish…’ Another statement read: ‘Carrots are so last Christmas. We’re looking ahead now to better times with bananas! We’ve even had some recipe ideas to help you join the fun. Look out for a bunch of delicious recipes coming soon!’ Credit: Original article published here. You can read this post on My Celebrity Life.
