Tiffany Haddish and Sam Richardson’s Afterparty is back with a bang for season two, with another murder to solve.
Vivian Wu, Elizabeth Perkins, Ken Jeong, Jack Whitehall, and Zoe Chao appear in the American murder thriller, which has returned with some rather wild scenes.
In the first episode, Sam’s character Aniq manages to sip a horn full of ‘fermented camel’s milk,’ only to spit the ‘chunky’ concoction at his girlfriend’s mother when he realises what the family’s ‘fun-uncle’ has actually given him.
There’s also a pet lizard that doesn’t like cake, British comic Jack Whitehall who switches between an English and an American accent, and Wes Anderson and Jane Austen-themed shows.
Overall, it’s odd – but there were even more bizarre parts eliminated from the programme, some of which were deemed “too crazy.”
Producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Anthony King have spoken about what didn’t make the programme.
Miller revealed: ‘There’s things that we cut in the writers’ room because they were too wacky, too many things.’
Lord suggested that he had one “huge regret” over something that was removed, but he’s keeping it a secret in the hopes that it may appear in future episodes.
Miller continued: ‘There was a runner where there was a barbershop quartet of Richard Nixon impersonators that was in for a while.’
‘It was pivotal for a long time,’ King added.
‘We ended up pulling that out,’ Miller said. ‘There’s a lot of things that seemed like a good idea for a while, but they’re like, what are we doing? This is too crazy.’
Sam also described a situation in which a chocolate fountain ‘exploded’ on him.
He told us: ‘There’s a moment with a white chocolate fountain that explodes on me, that didn’t make it to the cut.
‘I was covered in white chocolate.’
The Afterparty S2 premieres globally with the first two episodes on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, on Apple TV+, followed by new episodes weekly, every Wednesday until September 5 exclusively on Apple TV+.
