After Life returns for its final season on Friday, as fans bid farewell to Tony Johnson (Ricky Gervais) and the residents of the town of Tambury – but are the locations featured real places?
The Netflix series follows Tony, a reporter for the local newspaper called Tambury Gazette, as he struggles with his grief after the death of his wife Lisa to cancer.
In the last few series’ Tony has gradually tried to rebuild his life without his partner, with the help of his colleagues, friends and gorgeous dog Brandy.
Amid all the drama and tears, fans have seen Tony on a mission to become a kinder person as he comes to terms with his loss.
Here’s everything you need to know about where the hit series is set in the UK.
Where is After Life filmed?
Filming took place across several locations in the south of England, to appear as Tambury – where all the action takes place.
After Life was filmed primarily in Hampstead, Hemel Hempstead, Beaconsfield, and Camber Sands in East Sussex.
Tony’s gorgeous townhouse, which he shares with his beloved dog Brandy, is in a small hamlet called Vale of Health, in North Hampstead.
Many of the town centre shots, including Tony’s workplace of the Tambury Gazette – were filmed in the centre of Hemel Hempstead.
Gervais was spotted filming in Hemel Hempstead for the third season of After Life, back in the summer of 2021.
The care home Tony visits his dad Ray (David Bradley) up until his death is in fact the Old Town Registration Office in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
Is Tambury a real place?
Unsurprisingly, Tambury is a fictional place, meaning the Tambury Fayre is not real either – sadly.
Hemel Hempstead mainly masquerades as the picturesque town, located near Luton, Greater London.
Luckily, many of the spots in which the show is filmed can be easily visited.
So, if you want to go and visit the Tambury Gazette HQ, you’ll find it right in the centre of Hemel Hempstead.
After Life season 3 lands on Netflix on Friday, January 14.
