Warning: article contains spoilers for After Life season three.
After Life fans will be relieved to learn the fate of one of the most loved characters in the cast is a positive one after Netflix posted a cheeky spoiler on their social media pages.
The final set of episodes for Ricky Gervais’ series dropped late last week on the streaming service, and have already been binged watched by viewers in their millions.
It marks the end of fans’ time with widow Tony Johnson (Ricky Gervais) who struggled to navigate his grief following the loss of his wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman).
But with the series promising lots of laughter – and tears – some who haven’t yet tuned in have been reluctant to watch due to fear Tony beloved dog Brandy would die in the finale.
Luckily, their worries can now be put to rest as Netflix took it upon themselves to drop a major spoiler about Brandy.
The official account for Netflix UK and Ireland tweeted: ‘If you haven’t watched After Life S3 because you’re worried about a certain character, please look at our bio.’
Their bio simply reads: ‘The dog doesn’t die.’
Phew! We don’t think we could cope with any more tears…
In the last two seasons, those watching saw Tony nearly gave up hope after starting out the story with severe depression.
He was gradually supported by his colleagues at the Tambury Gazette but it was someone else who ultimately saved him – his dog.
So it seems fitting that the pair both got a happy ending, as they walked off into the sunset together.
It’s fair to say, although those final scenes clearly left some fans confused, Ricky has given all the answers on exactly what they meant.
Ricky told Metro.co.uk and other press ahead of season three: ’The ending for me, it sort of says, life goes on, life goes on.
It’s all about it’s said that the [Tambury] Fair and the Fair has been there for 500 years, and it might be there for another 500.
‘It’s basically saying – this isn’t a spoiler, I promise – It’s basically saying, we all die, but not today. That’s all it’s sort of saying, it’s that at the moment, it’s good. It’s fine,’ Ricky shared.
‘I knew I’d been explaining it,’ he continued. ‘But it’s a nice ending. I think people are sad that it’s ended.
‘If they’ve enjoyed it, you’re sad that it’s ended, but I don’t think it’s a sad ending. I think it’s nice and positive, obviously, it’s ambiguous because people are asking me about it.
‘But I’d say it’s a nice ending, that’s what I think,’ the creator noted.
After Life seasons 1-3 can be streamed on Netflix now.
