Tammy Slaton stated that she is ‘thankful to be alive’ when discussing her weight loss attempts.
TLC’s 1000-Lb Sisters has provided fans with a front-row ticket to the reality star’s transformation over the years.
During season four, the 36-year-old returned to a food rehab centre after nearly losing her life last year when her body’s ‘gave out’ – and finally lost over 200 pounds in order to have bariatric surgery.
Fans lavished her with compliments when she recently published images of herself standing straight and without an oxygen tank, demonstrating how far she had gone.
Speaking to People Magazine about her efforts, Tammy said: ‘I was able to make my lungs strong enough to get my trach [tracheostomy tube for breathing] out, and then recently the doctor cleared me to be off my oxygen machine during the daytime.
‘Now I only wear my oxygen at night, along with my BiPap machine.
‘I monitor my oxygen levels throughout the day and keep my machine on hand in case I need it.’
‘I’m feeling great! I’m thankful to be alive, and it’s fun to be progressing as much as I am.’
Tammy was brought to the hospital last year after ‘quitting breathing,’ with the disturbing footage showing on season three of the TLC show.
Doctors put her in a coma and told her family that her lungs had “given up” and her body was “shutting down.”
After needing some time to heal, the TLC favourite returned to the weight reduction clinic, unwilling to give up on her mission.
In recent scenes, she was surprised to find that she had reduced approximately 200 pounds, making her eligible for surgery.
Despite her progress, Tammy recently revealed to supporters that her lungs “aren’t completely healed.”
In a new TikTok video, when she attempted to review a candle, she could be seen linked up to the oxygen tank, telling fans: ‘I can’t light it since I’m plainly on oxygen.

‘I’m still on oxygen because my lungs aren’t completely healed from being on life support.
‘They are still not completely healed but they are really getting so much better.
‘I’m not completely dependent on oxygen anymore. I can go at least five hours without it.’
